Shadowplay, it's a small company. We call ourselves a "boutique studio".
We specialize in motion graphics,
visual effects, and filim title design.
Most recently we did the opening titles for Up in the Air.
I met Jason Reitman for the first time at the Sundance Film Festival in 2000.
Our two short films were kind of
on a similar short film festival circuit, that year
and it was a Him that was shot entirely against a green screen
and composited into these handmade, hand-painted sets.
He really liked that combination of live-action and animation that we did.
And I think that's the reason that he called us for Thank You for Smoking.
All three of Jason Reitman's title sequences
allowed me to do the three things I really like.
With Thank You for Smoking, it was graphic design.
With Juno, I was drawing and illustrating.
With Up in the Air, I was editing.
So, it was combining some of my video background.
There's a lot of thematic elements
and emotion that goes on in Jason's films,
and I feel like he and I are on the same page
with the creative philosophy of what title sequences should be.
