What are we fighting for

when we step on that battlefield?

You ask an admiral or a general,

and you'll hear words like freedom, honor and glory.

And, yeah, there is some of that.

But when you ask an operator,

a SEAL,

you'll hear something different.

We fight for each other.

And when you're a part of that brotherhood,

every battle is about bringing your brothers home.

Which is why it's so hard to see them buried.

And the only thing that's worse...

...is when you give up that brotherhood.

That's a weight you can't even imagine.

And a story that's so hard to tell.

This.

This is my story.

The United States, this morning, is promising

to help Iraq fight off

a new al-Qaeda offensive.

Militants took over one important city, and there is intense fighting in another.

The militants fighting in Iraq are members

of the al-Qaeda-linked Islamic State of Iraq and Syria,

or ISIS, which has flourished

in the power vacuum left by Syria's civil war.
