James Cole. Nice to meet you.

Where's the virus?

They're family, right? They're brothers.

Much like real family, it's a complicated relationship.

There's still heat simmering underneath the little kettle.

They already had their guns drawn.

Relax, you're alive.

You're such an old man now.

They both realize they have very different points of view

on what the mission is going to take.

Save everyone.

Everyone except my son.

You know what? Why don't you stop me, then?

You know, we haven't come up with a solution for the future.

You believe in the past,

I believe in the future.

They might have differences of opinion. They might have arguments.

But ultimately they're family, so they're gonna stay together.

Take care of yourself, brother.

And the question remains.

Can these two truly work together. Can they even be friends?

My favorite scene is on the Chain Bridge in Budapest with Cole and Ramse,

where we see that fun dynamic, that Butch-and-Sundance thing, is kind of back,

even though it's complicated.

I see the both of you are once again unified in purpose.

Nah. Not really.

We just don't like you.

And it was fun to do this action scene with a drone, aerial shots,

and explosions, and car chases, and motorcycles to start the season off.

It's like the beginning of a Bond film,

where you're seeing the last bit of their adventure before starting a new one.

I don't like guns.

Makes surgery difficult if my hands are shaking.

I'm a huge fan of Downtown Abbey and Bates in general.

He had just wrapped Down ton Abbey

and was available, and we had this role.

And he's so likeable and so loveable

that he's perfect to play somebody

who you would not expect to betray Cole and Ramse.

Please.

Your friend's alive.

He's a huge fan of the show, and we're huge fans of his. It was a lot of fun.

Your entire life has led to this moment.

To Jennifer, it was more about being part of something and having a purpose.

Today, you could save the world.

She doesn't feel it's right.

All you gotta do is pull the trigger.

But she knows she's supposed to do this

and in one way, it's that thing where you want someone to stop you.

You're gonna stop me.

In the moment, I remember feeling just like,

"Of course ! It's you ! You're gonna stop me ! "

And it's so kind of meant to be.

Faith in humanity restored.

Faith in myself, not so much.

Good morning, bright eyes.

She sees the world that he's had to live in.

And she sees that her approach until that point didn't cut it.

Uh, we haven't officially met.

I'm Deacon.

When Deacon sees Cassie for the first time, unbeknownst to her,

he knows who she is.

She has been present in his life and memory

since he was a boy

because she was the poster child for the CDC,

and she was the one telling us all how to stay safe.

I never would've...

That's just a temporary partnership.

In the future, it throws him,

and all of those old feelings of security and comfort, he projects on her.

These guys are fast, and stupid strong.

So when I grab him, I want you to put this six inches into his neck.

Why his neck?

Because he will die quick and quiet.

Let him live, you create an enemy.

So training her how to survive is as much for her as it is for him.

Don't hesitate, don't miss, or we die.

So she knows now also a life and a world of violence.

That is what ultimately silences people in 2044,

and so, in order to silence the people that need to be dealt with in 2016,

she's gonna do it, whatever it takes.

Don't make me do this.

No one's making you do anything.

You have a choice.

So what's it gonna be?

Times, they are a-changing!

Cole.

There's such enormous relief when she sees him.

Cassie.

That was something even from an actress' perspective,

just having my buddy Aaron there,

it's a relief, and it's comforting,

but then something's not quite right.

This again ... Wait a minute, he's with me.

With you?

Cole and Cassie don't really know each other anymore.

She's a lot like he was at the top of season one,

and he's turned a corner and found more of a moral compass.

We can't leave them here alive.

I won't let you do that.

You're letting your emotions get in the way.

He doesn't know where he stands with her.

He's not sure he knows who she is anymore.

Look, I know your being this way is my fault,

but this isn't who you are.

What I am is because of me.

Nobody else.

He feels responsible for her having turned

into this hardened, calloused person,

and he keeps apologizing, which is irritating.

If somebody keeps apologizing for you being the way that you now are,

it's like they have power over your life.

She doesn't want him to have that power.

She is who she is because of her

and not because of anybody else.

It's gonna take a beat for them to figure out each other again,

and hopefully they do.

This guy helps the Messengers. He was instrumental in the virus.

So, for those two reasons alone,

he should be put down.

And then, add in all of the other

personal baggage that he's got with him.

Heard a man and woman fighting inside.

Grabs her hair.

Starts beating her up.

Two little boys run out, you know, chasing after her.

And the oldest was crying.

And he kept on crying.

That was you.

He got him in the only place that Deacon is weak.

That is his Achilles heel. That is his soft spot.

There's his underbelly, and he went right for it.

You know, I think your daddy, he would've gone all the way.

He would've killed your mom right there

if the cops hadn't come.

You should thank me.

What you start to see is a kernel of Deacon's humanity

and that this guy wasn't just a psychopath.

He might have been made this way and has his own demons.

You know what, Teddy? All the talking ...

Got me a little thirsty.

Move!

When the writers chose to bring, uh, Deacon into season two,

there is a mandate then to show more sides of who this person is.

I have nothing left.

Of course you do.

Just go. Get out of this.

Go and find your purpose.

You do have one.

One that's right.

Everybody else sees her as a thing
